Title

Establishing new workflows for handling electronic ETDs in libraries and computing centres

Description

As the amount of electronic documents, esp. ETDs, that have to be handled, archived and made accesible by the universities is growing, new workflows have to be established between several institutions. While those new workflows are set up, new cooperations between libraries, computing centres and graduate schools have to be established. So ETDs bring a ""new culture of electronic publishing"" and new demands for ETD- preparation, archiving and retrieval into universities. This fact brings up the nessecity to model new workflows that integrate not only the formal checking of readability, document formats, style rules or printing services but also automates the upload of ETDs, security issues and the metadata exchange with centralized bodies, like the national libraries or union catalogues (like the NDLTD Union Catalogue). Within this talk we also present a WWW-based workflow systems that has been developed to handle ETDs within the cooperation of the libraries and the computing centre at Humboldt-University.
