Finding a Software System to Support ETDs

Report on the findings of a University of Rochester Libraries' taskforce to find a software system that could support ETDs, as well as other author-driven systems, such as a faculty e-archive and student e-portfolios. Presentation includes as outline of the requirements for a software that could support the submission, retrieval, storage and management of an ETD collection. Shortcomings of open source software solutions, digital management system and e-publishing systems are addressed, as are the trade-offs of each. The product list includes ePrints, ExLibris' DigiTool, Endeavor's EnCompass, BePress' EdiKit, Greenstone and the MP/MIT collaboration on DSpace.
